Application
Gerhard Ten Doornkaat is one of the German Sea Rescue Service - the DGzRS - high-performance search and rescue boats.
Like many of the other DGzRS boats, she was built by Fr Fassmer GmbH, one of Germany's most renowned boatbuilders.
Boat Details
Gerhard Ten Doornkaat was repowered with an M215C engine with single grid keel cooling, which is coupled to an MG5050V Remote V-drive gearbox, following the successful repowering of her sister rescue craft, Juist. Once again, the repowering was achieved without having to resort to major structural changes to the vessel.
Customer View
"Naturally, the performance of the M215C on Juist had a significant bearing
on the choice of engine when we decided to repower the Gerhard Ten Doornkaat.
We needed to get more reliable, durable power than we had achieved with her
original engine. We also wanted to improve her manoeuvrability, which is essential
for any sea rescue craft." |

"Our experience had shown that
fitting a lower revving, low stressed engine was a wise decision and had certainly
boosted our confidence in the boat's constant readiness and ability to fulfil
its vital rescue duties. The M215C's torque characteristics improved Juist's
low speed manoeuvrability and enhanced the boat's acceleration, so we were
confident that it was the right choice for the Gerhard Ten Doornkaat."
